SEQUEL 10 Simplifies and Speeds Access to Data

in

SEQUEL Software, a Help/Systems company, announces the release of SEQUEL 10, its popular data access and analysis software. SEQUEL 10 offers extended SQL statements and runtime SQL translation for remote database access using SEQUEL’s simpler syntax, rich functionality, and querying capabilities.

SEQUEL 10 extends the maximum length for SEQUEL syntax statements from 5,000 to 20,000 characters to allow SEQUEL users to create longer and more complex views.

Behind the scenes, SEQUEL 10 translates SEQUEL SQL syntax at runtime into standard SQL or server-specific SQL for SEQUEL views (queries). Users can run SEQUEL queries using IBM’s SQL Query Engine (SQE) for faster querying on their local SEQUEL server. The translation also allows users to run queries against remote databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL. Users can create these queries using SEQUEL’s familiar, easy-to-use syntax and powerful functions (such as CVTDATE).

SEQUEL 10 adds a new SYNTAX parameter that performs the server-specific SQL translation. This parameter is part of any SEQUEL command that works with SQL statements, including CRTVIEW, DISPLAY, and DSNREPORT. A new *LOCALSYS value for the SEQUEL SERVER parameter allows users to build an SQL statement using the job’s library list, instead of the server’s library list. Both new and existing SEQUEL user-defined functions work with this value to provide the same query functionality for remote servers that currently is available with the local SEQUEL server.
